Employment position paper.
As a person who co-founded a computer design and manufacturing company
in the 1980s, and worked in and with multiple Internet startups over
the past decade and a half, I have been frustrated by the glacial pace
of the Milwaukee Venture Capital community. Milwaukee always appears
behind the curve on every new trend that comes down the pike. At one
time that was not true. Milwaukee between 1860 and 1960 was a beehive
of entrepreneurial activity, but with a few notable exceptions, the
decedents of Milwaukee's entrepreneurial generation would rather clip
bonds than create new wealth.
It is time we drag Milwaukee County, kicking and screaming, into the 21st Century.
I will actively engage California venture capital firms to locate offices in Downtown Milwaukee.
I will break the transit deadlock and build rail and bus connections to jobs.
I will actively encourage the development of a new entrepreneurial generation.
I will use my Internet connections to bring network engineering conferences to Milwaukee.
I will support technology and green initiatives.
I will support educating and training a 21st century work force.
I will support small businesses and startups, because I know what they go through.
I will lead by example. I will use Internet technology to make
Milwaukee County government, efficient, open, transparent, and
accessible. I will keep good family supporting jobs in house. I will
build efficiency in the workplace through moral leadership, employee
empowerment, and the end of mean-spirited, slash and burn budgeting.
Now is time for entrepreneurial leadership.
Our goal is a strong and vigorous entrepreneurial community, creating a sustainable foundation for long term job growth.
